2014 District VI Female Youth Referee of the Year

Rowan Vining is the proud winner of the 2014 District 6 Female Youth Referee of the Year award.

This award is given annually to the outstanding young female referee for all of District 6, which includes all 16 or our regional organizations for CYSA, including: 49er, American River, Butte, Capital Valley, El Dorado, Elk Grove, Fairfield-Suison, Gold Country, Natomas, River City, Rolling Hills, Sacramento, Sacramento North, Vacaville, Yuba stutter and our own Placer Youth Soccer League.

A prior winner of the Female Referee of the Year award for Placer Youth Soccer League in 2013, Rowan starting officiating games for LYSC 7 years ago, at 11 years of age. She started off officiating in U6 games, like many of our youngest officials, and worked up from there. She has worked diligently over the last several years to improve her performance in all phases, working various tournaments and for local leagues such as Lincoln, Loomis, Roseville, Davis, and for several competitive soccer clubs.

In addition she has worked at the various Cup events (i.e. District, Association, Founders, Jrs, State, etc...), attended Referee Academy program training sessions, and working with her adult Mentors in the officiating community, including but not limited to Frank Banuelos, with LYSC and Chuck Pirone, with PYSL. Rowan has also worked with other officials herself, specifically with other female officials and younger referees, as a mentor and role model. Having officiated from Redding in the north to San Diego in the south over the last couple of years, Rowan has been invited to officiate at CYSA Nationals in Idaho this coming summer, a true honor for such a young official.

Rowan is eligible for advancement to grade 7 this year, and hopes to continue her development as a referee in the future, looking to referee college games and beyond. This well deserved award recognizes her hard work, and effort, in improving herself.
